FALL FAITH OPPORTUNITIES
Life
is a journey. Our life experiences add to our
faith growth. Knowing God and God’s
life-lessons makes the difference during this
life—and the next. Here are some ways to get
better acquainted with Your Maker and God’s
desires for your life.
SUNDAY MORNING ADULT CLASSES:
The
Lectionary Class
studies the potential scriptures Pastor Al will
use in building next week’s worship service.
Have the chance to pre-read the scriptures and
study them in a group before worship. You do
not have to have an extensive Bible
knowledge...come and learn. Meets in the
Nursery; led by Jodi McDougall.
The
All
Things Considered in Light of the Gospel
class tackles a variety of topics and issues
as the class shares leadership. Not everyone
has the same viewpoint, but learning together is
a shared journey. Topics coming soon: a study
and discussion of the book The Jesus Papers
led by David Deshler and John Phillips and
then a discussion of The Hidden Gospels
by David Klotz, led by Deanie Adams. A series
on up-dating Biblical archeology follows. The
first Sunday in October will be a presentation
of the Dead Sea Scrolls (preceding the Senior
Travelers hosted trip to see them). Other
topics and their schedule will be listed soon.
Meets in the Sund Room
The
Young
Adult Class—will meet in the Library
with Ursula Johnson as facilitator. They are
working on choosing their curriculum and meeting
schedule for the fall. Drop in and join them.
Mid-week studies:
Disciple Bible Study—Monday
evenings, 7:00 PM. Jodi McDougall will lead
this Bible study that is a journey of faith
beginning with the book of Genesis and ending
with Revelation 34 weeks later. This study is
a commitment to reading the Word of God daily
and meeting with the Disciple group weekly. It
involves being willing to be transformed by
God’s Word and God’s Spirit as it moves through
the group each week.
I have led
the Youth Bible Study for the past four years
and have prayerfully decided to move with the
young adults into a deeper understanding of
God’s Word through the Disciple Bible Study.
This group is open to all ages: from recent
graduates to senior citizens. The more varied
the age range brings different and new insights
into our discussions. I have led disciple
groups in years past, so I am eager to do so
again.
Have you been thinking about a
beginning Bible study? Getting back into Bible
study? Wanting to meet with fellow Christians
and discuss God’s Word? Come on
Monday
to see if this Bible Study is for you. —
Jodi
Bible Study Fellowship—is
an inter-denominational Bible study that meets
weekly for an in-depth study. The depth of
study and what you are encouraged to learn and
apply to your life is phenomenal. The Women
have two class time options: the Wednesday
morning group meets at Fox Island Alliance
Church, the Monday evening women’s group meets
at Central Baptist Church (5000 67th
Ave W, University Place). The Men’s Class meets
Monday evenings at University Place Presbyterian
Church (8101 27th Street W,
Tacoma). We have many in the church who attend
—and many who credit Bible Study Fellowship with
the awakening of their faith. You need to make
a commitment to be faithfully in God’s Word, and
the study will give you the background to
scripture, and encourage you to be applying what
you are learning to your life daily.
This year’s study is on the book of
Romans. Carolanne
can hook you with someone currently going.
The
pre-school through fifth grade
children
will be uses the curriculum
Exploring
Faith. This fall they begin the year with
Moses leading God’s people out of Egypt, through
the Wilderness and into the Promised Land.
Youth—the
Mid-highs uses a curriculum called
Tweens in
Transition. This fall’s focus
is on Hope. God’s connection with God’s people
throughout the Bible is a study in hope. First,
God’s created order bringing us hope. God is
our source of hope amidst the confusion and
change in our lives. MID-HIGH YOUTH will meet
Sunday evenings at 5:30, starting with the
Fall Kick-Off on
September 10th.
Senior High youth will meet and set their
curriculum direction with their leaders.
SENIOR HIGH YOUTH meets Sunday evenings at 6:30.
