We focus our congregational mission and social justice in the following areas.
Jamaa Letu Orphanage in the Congo- This is an orphanage that our United Methodist Conference partners with to provide support- in prayer, finances, and labor. We sponsor 11 children each year, and we have committed to providing college tuition and living expenses for one University student. We take a "Noisy Offering" in Advent where we collect as much cash as possible to fulfill our goal, and then we find ways to invite the community to contribute as well. Take a look at their website: www.pnwumc.org/hfca/
Dismantling Racism- in 2021/2022/2023/2024 our social justice focus is Dismantling Racism. In classes and small groups, we are reading books, sharing resources for understanding white privilege, prejudice, and systemic racism. Preaching and leadership will regularly look at ways to help eradicate our own practices while seeking to learn and grow so we might actively work as anti-racist people. Open Table - Open Table is our direct feeding ministry that provides FREE, HOT meals to the community and brings people together for fellowship. Dinner is served the 3rd Monday of each month at 5:30pm. We often have room for volunteers and we welcome folks from the community.
Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH Food Bank is a regular recipient of our volunteer hours and major donations. We keep a basket to receive your items in the entryway, but even more, we want to encourage you to choose FISH as a place to give your time. www.ghpfish.org
In addition, there are times when hearts are moved to go above and beyond. In the past few years, our church has collected and donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to support building efforts of the new FISH Food Bank, relocation of refugees from Ukraine and Pakistan, and support for vaccines in African nations.
For more information about any of these ministries and or to find out about other ways to serve please contact the Deborah in the church office.
